The Oxford University Basketball Club has always sustained high sporting excellence and wishes to continue this in the upcoming seasons.
OUBbC has four teams that compete in different divisions of the British Universities and Colleges Sports association (BUCS). The club has recently introduced a third men's team which competes in the local league, and has set up a women's beginner session once per week. We also have a wheelchair basketball team which was strongly affected by COVID-19, but that we are slowly building up.
In addition to inter-university competitions, OUBbC also organises college league and Cuppers (Inter-collegiate) tournaments involving more than 300 Oxford students competing weekly throughout the academic year. We are bringing back the alumni game this year and are setting up more 3x3 competitions open to club members and friends of the club.
Our main aim is to maintain a well-organised basketball community that provides the opportunity for students from all over the world to balance their studies with social and sporting life. We also have several short-term goals such as remaining in Division 1 for the Men’s and Women’s first teams (Blues), remaining in Division 2 for Men’s and Women’s second teams (Twos), and winning Varsity.
Substantial funding is needed to achieve these goals. Any donations would not only enable this work to take place, but also make a lasting contribution to maintaining and developing the unique international community of OUBbC.
Donations are very gratefully received and are used to run and improve our club. Some examples of how your donations will be used are:
- Refereeing - £40 covers refereeing for one game
- Game equipment - £50 gets us a new game-quality ball
- Transport - £100 sends one of our teams to an away match
- Team Kits - £500 can provide new kit for one team
- Wheelchair equipment - £1,000 can purchase a new specialised sports wheelchair
- Coaching Salaries - £1,500 provides high-quality coaching for a team for one year
- Awards Ceremony at the Natural History Museum – donations can help subsidise the price for students who can't afford a ticket to allow the club to celebrate the end of the season together.
