The University of Oxford is delighted to announce that the Dulverton Trust has renewed its commitment to supporting graduate students through the Dulverton and Michael Wills Scholarship Scheme.
The scheme will cover course fees and living expenses for an average of six students every year from the start of the academic year 2019–20 until 2021–22 inclusive. The support will cover the full duration of each student’s course, enabling them to continue their studies free from financial constraints.
Up to four Dulverton Scholarships will be given to students holding a place to study a full-time graduate degree. There is a preference for those studying for a master’s, although DPhil students may also receive an award. Additionally, a maximum of two students will benefit annually from the Michael Wills Scholarship to study one of several specified master’s courses in the Oxford Department of International Development, which co-funds this scholarship.
Scholarships are awarded to those demonstrating exceptional academic merit and/or potential. Recipients’ countries of ordinary residence will also be a deciding factor in the selection process and all successful applicants from non-EEA countries are expected to demonstrate their intention to return to their country in a leadership capacity on completion of the course.
Dulverton Scholar, Zeynep Kaya (DPhil Oncology), says: ‘This scholarship was the greatest gift ever given to me, and I will always be grateful to the Dulverton Trust. I would not have been able to study at Oxford if I hadn’t been given this scholarship. I never forget my responsibility of being a student and researcher and making the best of my time here.’
Francis Arthur, a Michael Wills Scholar alumnus (MPhil Development Studies), says: ‘I plan to go back to Ghana and apply for PhD courses and work with an NGO to promote development at the local level. This scholarship has provided me with the foundation to pursue my career aspirations.’
Professor Louise Richardson, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Oxford, says: 'The Dulverton Trust has generously supported graduate students at Oxford for more than 50 years. By identifying areas of greatest need and focusing its efforts to address these areas, the Dulverton Trust continues its commitment to effecting positive and lasting change throughout the world.'
Anna de Pulford, Director of the Dulverton Trust, adds: 'The Dulverton Trust’s support of scholars at the University goes back to 1964, when, in an effort to promote post World War Two reconciliation, the Michael Wills Scholarship was established to support German scholars. The spirit of the original scholars remains today, and we are delighted to continue to support promising leaders from countries that have recently experienced conflict.'
