Merton College

Founded in 1264, Merton is one of the oldest colleges in Oxford. The College admits approximately equal numbers of undergraduates and postgraduates each year. It has a strong sense of community and a friendly atmosphere.

Donations are vital in helping Merton to provide support to students who are in need, sustain its record of academic excellence, maintain and enhance its historic buildings, and much more.

Gifts to any of the below areas will have a tangible impact on Merton’s students and enable the College to continue to flourish for generations to come.

The Student Support Fund

The general Student Support Fund covers student hardship, as well as a variety of travel grants and academic grants, to help maximise the student experience of every Mertonian throughout their time at the College.

Merton College Refugee Academic Futures Scholarship

This scholarship is open to all subjects and will provide a significant opportunity by fully funding a graduate student - from any part of the world - who is a refugee or has experienced forced displacement.

Merton College Black Academic Futures Scholarship

Donations will help fund Merton's full scholarship to a British graduate student of Black African and Caribbean heritage, which began in 2022.

Merton College Graduate Scholarship in Music

Gifts will help us to provide an essential living costs grant for four years of doctoral study. We will seek to match this with University funding for fees, creating a full scholarship and a transformational opportunity.

Merton College Helping our Sporting Blues

Committed to sporting participation and excellence, the College is eager for students to have the opportunity to develop athletic talents that support physical and mental health. We want to expand our funding for Blues Sports participation.

Merton College Choir - General

Currently, gifts to this area will be directed towards a new series of commissions from modern composers, as well as recordings of these works, and of music composed by recent Visiting Research Fellow Cheryl Frances-Hoad.

Merton College Boat Club

Funds will be used by the Merton College Boat Club to buy and maintain equipment, and in general to improve their offering to students and their performance.

The Chapel

Our Chapel dates back to the end of the 13th century and stands at the heart of our ancient College. Donations to this fund will support all of the work of the Chapel, including services, community activities, music and the building itself.

Merton College Instrumental Bursaries for Girl Choristers

Currently, gifts to this fund will be directed toward supporting instrumental bursaries for our Girl Choristers. This will cover the costs of music instrumental sessions, enhancing their educational experience.

Merton College Unrestricted

Unrestricted gifts will be allocated to the areas of the College where the need is greatest.
