Giving to Earth Sciences
As climate change continues to be a global challenge of increasing urgency, the study of earth sciences is more important than ever. It remains essential that Earth Sciences students leave Oxford with sound, scientific training and strong field skills.
Researchers and students in the Department of Earth Sciences investigate planetary evolution and the origins of life, the nature of planetary interiors, the causes of earthquakes and volcanic eruptions, the evolution of life, and the functioning of the carbon, ocean and climate systems.
Research feeds directly into our undergraduate programme, with students exploring aspects of geophysical and geochemical processes throughout their course and contributing to research during their final year of study. For decades, Earth Sciences (and previously, Geology) students have benefitted from studying remarkable geological features and developing fundamental skills in key locations such as Arran, Assynt, Pembrokeshire and the Jurassic Coast.
Right now, the best way to support the department is to make a gift to the Field Trip Fund. Gifts to this fund go into our endowment. As such, they will have a lasting impact, training the next generation of earth scientists, who might go on to support communities at risk of earthquakes; supply rare earth minerals for future technologies; or mitigate climate change.
If you would like to make a donation towards a more specific purpose such as scholarships, academic posts or research, please contact Caitlin Tebbit.
The Department of Earth Sciences at Oxford is extremely grateful for support at all levels, and particularly to those individuals and organisations whose donations have made a difference already.
