A Graduate Studentship Fund in Particle Physics in Memory of Ian Shipsey

The Graduate Studentship Fund in Particle Physics has been set up in memory of our much-loved colleague, friend and Head of Department, Professor Ian Shipsey.

Professor Ian Shipsey

Ian was a world-leading particle physicist who has led some of the most significant global scientific advances and collaborations in recent decades including developing the specialist pixel camera which led to the discovery of the Higgs boson at CERN in 2012.

Alongside his research and leadership activities, Ian was passionate about giving young people from all backgrounds a chance to transform their lives through science and apply the power of physics to the greatest challenges facing humanity – ranging from climate change and phasing out fossil fuels, to exploring space and improving health and healthcare across ageing populations.

He leaves behind a remarkable legacy. Your gift to the Graduate Studentship Fund in Particle Physics in Memory of Ian Shipsey will continue this legacy by supporting future Particle Physics graduate students at Oxford and honouring Ian’s dedication to providing students with the support they need.
